Best customer service for business and first class flight agency ...

Hello all! I wanted to share an amazing experience I had when traveling from San Francisco to San Marino for work. I had to work with company budget to book my travel, and as I don't have an assistant, the most convenient option was to book with an agent, as they usually get better deals than calling airlines direct. I found a site- www.flymebusiness.com, after doing a bit of shopping around of course, and they went above and beyond what I said I needed. I spoke with Ana, who arranged everything from car service to 2 very detailed entertainment itineraries for San Marino, if I were to get free time, as well as e-mailing me history and traditions as this was my first time there. Has anyone else used them? I had such a fun and seamless booking and travel experience. I'm booking all my business trips through them from now on.

Peer-to-Peer Investing: Should You Get In on This Trend ...

Next time you?re going somewhere,?deciding to carpool. Giving a?percent of your income to charity. Investing in entrepreneurship across the globe?with a microloan.

It?s good to be a part of a community, right?

Sure, but should you put your investing dollars into doing good on an individual level? We?ll examine a new trend, peer-to-peer lending, that?gives everyday investors the opportunity to do just that.

Crowdsourcing Loans: Investing Without the Bureaucracy

Maybe you?re disillusioned by big banks, or wish you could grow your portfolio without buying in to what sometimes feels like a corrupt institution. Then again, maybe you?re attracted to the idea of investing?and?helping another human being at the same time.

That?s the dream behind the new trend of peer-to-peer lending. Here?s how it works, and why current economic trends are making it possible?and popular?now.

Current problem for investors: Because interest rates are low, the returns you?ll make on a bond are also pretty low compared to past years. Low interest rates also mean low returns on your investments in a?savings account?or?CD.

Current problem for borrowers: Credit has gotten harder to come by since the recession, and more and more people distrust big banks. If only there were some other way to get a loan ?

Websites like?Prosper?and?LendingClub?let investors lend money to regular people, who pay relatively affordable interest rates, which the investors receive as returns. In many ways, it?s the same basic model as a traditional bond investment ? minus traditional brokerages or banks.

Prosper boasts rates starting at 6.59% APR for borrowers, and an average of about 10% returns for investors. LendingClub starts the borrowing at 6.78% APR?and touts net annualized returns for investors of 5.8% to 9.59%.?Considering that returns on a 1-year CD are hovering around 0.75%, that sure?sounds?like a good deal.

But Here?s the Rub ?

Like a?traditional investment in a bond, these sites give their borrowers a credit rating?in other words, how likely they are to pay back the loan. The higher the risk that the borrower will shaft you, the higher the returns you receive. (In much the same way, if you?re deemed ?higher risk,? you?ll have to pay more to borrow.)

But as Stephany Kirkpatrick, LearnVest?s Director of Financial Planning, puts it: ?These are highly risky investment vehicles, are not registered securities and are very, very new. This amount of risk is not appropriate for most everyday investors. I would say, steer clear unless you are a higher-net-worth individual with a high degree of risk tolerance.?

Lending money to individual borrowers comes with a lot more risk than traditional bonds, which usually involve lending to a company or government. And, though you?re probably doing a good deed if you?re lending your money to someone in the process of consolidating her credit card debt?which accounts for about 70% of the loans on LendingClub?you might have your risk cut out for you.

Plus, LearnVest always encourages you to?diversify your portfolio. In other words, you shouldn?t put all your eggs in one metaphorical basket. Investments like mutual funds enable you to invest in many things at once, whereas these peer-to-peer investments are much narrower in focus.

LearnVest CFP? Sophia Bera adds, ?These types of investments tend to carry a lot more risk than traditional bonds. People should not risk?any?of their retirement money with this type of alternative investment.?

In other words, we can?t speak to whether you?d find these investments to be amazingly awesome or amazingly terrible, but we?can?speak to the fact that socking away money for retirement is absolutely crucial (here are the basics), and we don?t want to see you jump on a trend that ends up hurting your future.

Mixed legacy of George W. Bush hovers over Tampa

TAMPA, Florida (AP) ? Where is George W. Bush?

The last Republican president was a no-show at the Republican convention this week. And the party that he led for eight years barely mentioned him ? or his record.

Nevertheless, Bush's fiscal legacy ? including hundreds of billions spent on two wars that helped balloon the federal deficit ? loomed large over the gathering, as Republicans tried to make the case that the Republican Party was the party of smaller government and restrained spending.

Paul Ryan, for one, even lumped Bush in with President Barack Obama, blaming both for the nation's tenuous fiscal condition.

"In a clean break from the Obama years and, frankly, from the years before this president, we will keep federal spending at 20 percent of GDP or less," Ryan, R-Wis., the House Budget Committee chairman, said as he accepted the vice presidential nomination Wednesday.

The legacy of the Bush years complicates Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney's case against Obama as both fight to win over an electorate frustrated by the nation's enormous debt and budget-busting deficits.

Romney, the former Massachusetts governor, likes to taunt Obama for presiding over the largest increase in the national debt of any U.S. president. It's up $5.3 trillion under Obama ? in large part because of the recession and expensive efforts to revive the economy.

But Bush's record isn't far behind with a $4.9 trillion increase over his eight years in office. Republicans unhappy with Bush's fiscal record often cite the Republican's financial industry bailout in 2008, a whopping $700 billion, as akin to stimulus and bailout programs under Obama. They seldom complain about his huge tax cuts, which also drove up the red ink.

"People soured on him, it's true," said Ranae Lentz, an Ohio delegate. "But we're not here to discuss what's old. We're here to discuss what's new."

Bush declined an invitation to appear at the convention, likely mindful of the need for the party to turn the page and the political headaches his appearance could have created for Romney in a race that polls show is close just 10 weeks before Election Day.

There are signs Bush fatigue lingers in the electorate. In May, a CNN/ORC poll found 54 percent of Americans had an unfavorable opinion of Bush. A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll found Americans still blame Bush more than Obama for the country's current economic problems, 54 percent to 32 percent.

Romney aides dismissed questions of whether Romney had worked to downplay Bush's legacy or had instructed convention speakers to limit references to Bush.

Few ? if any ? uttered his name.

That included his secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, whose formal speech got a rousing reception from the crowd.

Rice generally spoke of her own experiences and only indirectly praised him for a shift in the nation's approach to terrorism that endures today after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

"I will never forget the bright September day," she said. "From that day on, our sense of vulnerability and our understanding of security would be altered forever."

Delegates rose to their feet and cheered, a sign her eight years with Bush had not dampened the GOP's affection for her.

To be sure, Romney's convention planners made sure to give a respectful nod to the Bush family in a five-minute video that featured interview clips with Bush, and his father, former President George H.W. Bush, and their wives. The crowd in the forum warmly cheered when the images of the father-and-son former presidents seated beside each other appeared on the video screens in the arena.

Bush's family members were among those who made the few mentions, and used them to polish his legacy.

The elder Bush said of his son, "I think the thing I take pride in is the integrity." The younger Bush's wife, Laura, added: "I'm so proud of George."

Bush's brother, Jeb, who turned down entreaties to seek the GOP nomination, also stepped to his brother's aid. He opened his speech with remarks that were nowhere to be found on the text that was distributed in advance.

"My brother, well, I love my brother. He is a man of integrity, courage and honor and, during incredibly challenging times, he kept us safe," Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida, told delegates Thursday night. He also chided Obama for continuing to blame his brother for the nation's weak economy.

When he was done, he moved on to his prepared remarks this way: "Now that I've gotten that off my chest, let's talk a little bit about our kids and education."

Beyond the video and positive feelings from some delegates there were plenty of Bush-era reminders ? awkward ones.

Memories of his heavily criticized handling of Hurricane Katrina were revived by the uncanny timing of Hurricane Isaac's landfall in Louisiana nearly seven years to the day after the hurricane devastated New Orleans.

The large, fast-ticking "debt clock" prominent on the convention hall wall was as much a reminder of spending woes under a Republican administration as a Democratic one.

"Let's face it, George W. Bush didn't do us conservatives a lot of favors by the end of his administration," said James Smack, a Nevada delegate to the convention.

Others talked more fondly of Bush ? when asked about him.

"I have tremendous respect for President Bush," said Robyn Johnson of Wichita, Kan. "He led our country during difficult times."

Bush is not the first past president whose mere name has had the potential to cause trouble for the nominee; both parties have struggled with how to handle recent former presidents.

In 2000, then-President Bill Clinton ? who had been impeached ? spoke at the Democratic National Convention but was marginalized by nominee Al Gore during the campaign.

Clinton's standing improved over time.

By 2004, Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry had embraced Clinton's economic legacy. Next week, Clinton, who already is appearing in an ad for Obama, gets the main spotlight Wednesday night at the Democratic convention.

Parking at Rec Center - Saratoga Seen - Saratoga Springs and ...

The vacant lot on Jefferson Street the mayor wants the city to purchase is assessed at less than $160,000 and owned by a construction company formed by a developer facing felony tax fraud charges, according to Saratoga County land records.

Mayor Scott Johnson has asked the City Council for $400,000 to buy the 1.02-acre property at 41 Jefferson St., from Jelenik Construction Co., LLC, and another $200,000 to turn it into a parking lot that would serve commuters to the city?s two-year-old indoor Recreation Center.

The city valued the empty lot, located just east of the Recreation Center, at $159,024 (full market) for 2012, according to county records. The Jelenik LLC owes $16,252 in back and current taxes on the property, according to the city?s finance department.

The LLC was founded by city builder David Jelenik in 2002, according to the state Department of State. Police arrested Jelenik, 51, on nine felony tax fraud charges in January. He is scheduled to appear in City Court Thursday.

The LLC purchased 41 Jefferson St., for $360,000 in August 2004, when it contained a residence, according to records.

Johnson?s $600,000 request to buy the property and make it a parking lot marks the most expensive capital project proposed for the city in 2013. The mayor listed buying the 52,000-square-foot parcel as a high priority, and a committee approved moving the request to the City Council for consideration.

Johnson said Wednesday that the proposed parking lot would supplement parking at the $6.5 million Recreation Center, which was built with 56 parking spaces amid significant opposition from neighbors. He said the purchase cost was being negotiated, and wouldn?t necessarily reach $400,000.

?If we do come to an agreement, back taxes will be taken into account in arriving at a sale price,? Johnson said in an interview. The city had reduced the number of parking spaces at the Recreation Center from about 80 when it was built to satisfy neighbors who were concerned about growing traffic, he said.

?Now it?s been built, and on occasion, we do have more than maximum capacity,? Johnson said. The vacant lot would provide vehicular and pedestrian connections to the recreation facility?s lot.

The Recreation Center has raised an increasing amount of rent revenue for the city since opening, but is still projected to lose money on an annual basis, according to financial breakdowns provided by the finance department on the city?s website.

In 2010, the city budgeted $110,556 on the center and collected $19,203 in rent. It spent $168,297 in 2011 and took in $93,275. This year, it is budgeted to cost $222,836 and earn $123,226, according to the website. The Recreation Center accounted for 7.6 percent of the Recreation Department?s total budget in 2010, compared to a projected 10.8 percent in 2012, the site says.

The City Council will hold its last public hearing on Capital Budget expenditures at 6:50 p.m. Tuesday in City Hall. The council must approve the budget by Sept. 15.

There has been an influx in home owners purchasing a number of home improvements as those who were thinking about moving have been put off by the state of the housing market. With the housing market still recovering many people have tried to increase the value of their home so when the market does start to recover, they will be in a good position to sell. Many people have read different home improvement stories about how best to increase the value in your home but in order to ensure you are spending your money wisely you really need to analyse whether the home improvement you are going to buy is the right one for your home. There are many different ways of increasing the value of your home but not all of them are going to be right for your home. You need to talk to an expert first to get their opinion (this should not carry a cost as many companies will offer free consultation), they will be able to give you a number of options available. The main thing to think about is the style of your home and whether the improvement is going to match it. There have been many cases where a home owner has made a home improvement that should add thousands to the value but when it has been completed it looks out of place and the home owner ends up wasting all that money. One way of seeing how a home improvement may look is to look at your neighbours' homes and see if they have anything similar, that way you can see what yours may look like. If you have nothing to compare against, designers can give you an idea of how it will look. If you are having new doors and windows for example, you need to make sure that colours and styles match the rest of your home. You may need to choose a more traditional style if you have a traditional styled house or if you have a modern styled home, you can afford to be more adventurous about the colour and style. Matching your new home improvement with your home is extremely important in order to get the true benefits. If you are making the improvements to help you sell, make sure you choose something that buyers are going to appreciate and will get the benefits from in the long term such as energy saving doors and windows. Home improvements such as fire doors and stable doors are the best ways of increasing the value and style of your home.

'Facts of Life' star Lisa Whelchel is a 'Survivor'

By Allison Corneau, Us Weekly

Monty Brinton / CBS

Lisa Whelchel, a former TV teen star, is set to compete in "Survivor."

"Brilliant idea!"?When CBS premieres its 25th season of "Survivor: Philippines"?next month, three former contestants will be making a second appearance -- along with one other familiar face: "Facts of Life"?star?Lisa Whelchel.

Photos from Us: Iconic TV stars

"I've watched every episode! Any episode I missed was only because TiVo missed it, then I went online to research what happened," self-proclaimed "Survivor"?superfan Whelchel -- who played spoiled preppy Blair Warner on the 80s sitcom -- told?Us Weekly?during a chat on-location days before the game began.

Earning her spot on the series thanks to a viral video campaign where fans helped circulate her audition tape via Twitter, Whelchel, now 49, says she's more than ready to outwit, outplay and outlast her 17 competitors this fall in an effort to pocket?"Survivor's"?$1 million prize. "Last summer I went voluntarily on a vision quest (spiritual journey) for 10 days with just a backpack, water, and a tarp. I love this kind of thing!"

Photos from Us: Thrill seeking celebs

As she competes for "Survivor's" $1 million prize, Whelchel tells?Us?there's a good chance her former costars?Nancy McKeon?("Jo"),?Charlotte Rae?("Mrs. Edna Garrett"),?Kim Fields?("Tootie") and?Mindy Cohn?("Natalie"), will be rooting her on from their living rooms. "I'm kind of like the mama so I know where everybody is, what they're doing and I stay in contact," says Whelchel, who married and had three children, now grown, since "Facts of Life"?wrapped in 1988.

She may even have a celebrity fan in former "Facts of Life"?costar?George Clooney, who appeared in a recurring role as George Burnett. "He was more like a big brother back then; it was great to have some testosterone on the set and he was really fun to be around," Whelchel says of Clooney, with whom she once had a kissing scene.

Photos from Us: LOL! See George Clooney back in the day

Now focused on the game, Whelchel thinks her odds at taking home the top prize aren't too bad. "I'm not one of those that say, 'Yeah, I'm going to win,' because there's so many things that could happen. But I think I could!"

Competing with Whelchel this season on "Survivor: Philippines"?are:?Sarah Dawson, Katie Hanson, Jeff Kent, Dana Lambert, Carter Williams, Abi-Maria Gomes, Roberta "RC" Saint-Amour, Artis Silvester, Peter "Pete" Yurkowski, Malcolm Freberg, Zane Knight, Angie Layton, Roxanne "Roxy" Morris?and?Denise Stapley. Three former contestants who were medically evacuated during their seasons will also join the newbies to take part in this season's competition, and will be revealed by CBS at a later date.

India says Pakistan websites caused migrant panic

(AP) ? The Indian home secretary has accused websites in Pakistan of spreading false rumors that caused thousands of people from India's remote northeast to panic and flee from southern and western India. They feared they would be attacked in retaliation for ethnic violence in their home state.

Home Secretary R.K. Singh told reporters late Saturday that investigators had found that most of the websites used images of people killed in cyclones and earthquakes and passed them off as Muslims killed in violence earlier this year to spread fear of revenge attacks. He said most of the images were uploaded from Pakistan. The sites have now been blocked.

Singh said India would discuss the matter with officials in Pakistan but gave no other details about the websites. The two countries routinely blame each other for fomenting domestic strife.

There was no immediate reaction from officials in Pakistan.

The exodus followed clashes in Assam state in recent weeks between ethnic Bodos and Muslims settlers that killed more than 50 people and displaced 400,000 others. The largest number of people fled the southern city of Bangalore. News reports said people also left some other cities in southern and western India. Those fleeing said they had heard text messages had been circulating threatening retaliatory attacks by Muslims.

Decades of ethnic violence have forced hundreds of thousands of young people from the northeast to move away in search of education and jobs. They find work mostly in the service sector in big cities, working in restaurants, shops and airlines.

The recent rioting in Assam mainly involved land rights. It has largely been brought under control, although sporadic outbreaks have occurred in the past week.

The Bodos and Muslim settlers, who mostly came from the former East Pakistan before it became Bangladesh in 1971, have clashed repeatedly over the years but the recent violence is the worst since the mid-1990s.

NASA's Curiosity rover prepares to fire laser beam at Martian surface

Before embarking on its maiden drive on the Red Planet, NASA's Curiosity Mars rover will fire its rock-vaporizing laser beam. A chemical sensor will sniff the vaporized bits to determine their composition.

Scientists plan to blast a Martian rock called N165 with Curiosity's laser, which is part of the rover's remote-sampling ChemCam instrument. The 3-inch-wide (7.6 centimeters) stone sits just 9 feet (2.7 meters) from Curiosity, well within ChemCam's 25-foot (7.6 m) range, scientists said.

"Our team has waited eight long years to get to this date, and we're happy that everything is looking good so far," ChemCam principal investigator Roger Wiens, of Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, told reporters today (Aug. 17). "Hopefully we'll be back early next week and be able to talk about how Curiosity's first laser shots went."

Curiosity, which landed in Mars' huge Gale Crater on Aug. 5, is also gearing up to move its six wheels for the first time. The rover's handlers have said a short test drive could take place around Sol 15 ? mission lingo for Curiosity's 15th full day on the Red Planet ? which corresponds to Monday or Tuesday (Aug. 20 or 21) Earth time.

Also today, scientists announced the target destination for Curiosity's first big trek ? a spot 1,300 feet (400 m) or so east of the rover's landing site that the mission team has dubbed Glenelg. Researchers chose it because Glenelg harbors three different geological units for Curiosity to study. [Photos: Glenelg on Mars - Latest Curiosity Rover Views]

"This was a natural target to pick up," said Curiosity chief scientist John Grotzinger, a geologist at Caltech in Pasadena. "It looks really obvious."

Firing up the laser

ChemCam, which is short for Chemistry and Camera, fires a laser at Mars rocks and then determines their chemical makeup by analyzing the vaporized bits. It's one of 10 instruments designed to help Curiosity determine if Mars has ever been capable of supporting microbial life.

While researchers haven't turned the laser on yet, ChemCam seems to be in fine working shape, Wiens said.

"We have basically done everything with this instrument except for turn the laser on," Wiens said. "Everything checks out well so far, so we're really optimistic."

Over the next few days, the team will perform some more calibration work with ChemCam, he added. Scientists will also photograph N165 before finally shooting the rock with the laser.

Mexican president eliminated pocket veto

On August 17, 2011, Mexican President Felipe Calderon signed a reform of the Mexican Constitution. The change eliminated the president's ability to use the pocket veto to reject pending legislation. The president must now take action on a bill within 30 days after he or she receives it. If he or she fails to act, the bill automatically becomes law. In recent years, Mexico has seen several constitutional amendments. In 2005, an constitutional amendment was passed to ban the death penalty in Mexico. While in office, Calderon has also facilitated several changes to the Mexican Constitution. In 2008, he signed changes to overhaul the criminal justice system. He had originally proposed many of the changes in 2007.

Arsenal agrees to sell Song to Barcelona

Associated Press Sports

updated 3:52 p.m. ET Aug. 18, 2012

BARCELONA, Spain (AP) -Cameroon midfielder Alex Song is set to sign with Barcelona after Arsenal agreed on Saturday to sell him, one day after Robin van Persie left the Premier League club.

Barcelona says the transfer will be ?19 million ($23.4 million) and Song will sign a five-year contract after he travels to Spain to agree personal terms and undergo a medical examination.

The 24-year-old player will be presented on Tuesday.

Song will help replace Seydou Keita, who left during the offseason to play in China, and provide some muscle to a talented but lightweight midfield that is led by Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and former Arsenal player Cesc Fabregas.

Song would become Barcelona's second signing of the offseason, after defender Jordi Alba joined from Valencia for ?14 million ($17.2 million).

Song didn't feature in Arsenal's 0-0 draw with Sunderland on Saturday's opening day of the Premier League season.

He has been at Arsenal for seven seasons, becoming a regular under manager Arsene Wenger since 2007. He played 150 league games for the London club, scoring seven goals.

He has also played 40 international matches for Cameroon.

Barcelona plays its first match in the new Spanish league season Sunday, at home against Real Sociedad to mark the debut of coach Tito Vilanova.

Arsenal sold Van Persie to Manchester United on Friday for a fee of about 24 million pounds ($38 million).

Microsoft resumes publishing Windows Phone apps, all is right with the world

Everybody, you can stop panicking. Microsoft has solved the digital signing problem that prevented app installations on older Windows Phones, as promised, and the flow of new apps is back to a steady stream. It may take a day or two before new titles show up in earnest; developers whose work was in caught in submission stage limbo won't have to restart the process from scratch, however. The quick turnaround is no doubt good news for developers.

What Does Your Fridge Door Say About Your Family? - NYTimes.com

Want to spend some time thinking about who your family is, and how the way you live reflects the way you really want to live, as opposed to the life that you?ve settled into, somehow, without much thought?

Then you may want to get a copy of ?Life at Home in the 21st Century,? an anthropological look at middle class American families ? or you may just want to take a look at your refrigerator door.

?Life at Home in the 21st Century? is the first book to come out of the? research in which the? Center on Everyday Lives of Families at the University of California, Los Angeles, followed 32 dual-income families with young children for, among other things, some 1,400 hours of videotaped interactions ? the research that gave us the phrase (from the author and researcher Anthony P. Graesch) ?the very purest form of birth control ever devised? and the comparison between the 5-year-old Amazon child who hauls logs and works the harvest while the 8-year-old American kid orders Dad to tie his shoe.

It?s a book focused on how we live within our homes ? on ?material saturation? and the way we create spaces, like serene master bedrooms and backyard patios, and yet spend all of our time bottled up in our kitchens and at our computers. And it?s a book about the way the spaces we live in reflect our lives, which brings us to the doors of our fridges.

Most families, say the authors, have ?rather dense and layered assemblages of ephemera on the refrigerator.?

One of the more intriguing phenomena we have noted is a tendency for high counts of objects on refrigerator panels to co-occur with large numbers of objects in the house as a whole. Put another way, a family?s tolerance for a ?messy? refrigerator may be associated with a fairly relaxed attitude about high density or clutter in public rooms of the house ? Perhaps a place as seemingly unassuming as the refrigerator signals overall family tendencies regarding consumerism and household organization.

Feeling a bit like a butterfly pinned to a card yet? Not only does the refrigerator in my house ?signal? our clutter, it also records my futile struggles against it. What does it say about the degree to which ?ephemera? has taken over our home that I have tried ? and failed ? to organize the front of our fridge?

First, there were the plastic magnetic picture frames. Nothing, I declared, belonged on the fridge except neatly in a frame, at right angles to everything else. One held a rotating cast of children?s art; another, a list of emergency phone numbers. It was the equivalent of stacking the piles on your desk. Remnants of that effort can still be seen in the picture (I can?t tell you how hard it was to keep from straightening things before I took it, but I resisted), along with last spring?s ?only magnets with sentimental value, or clips, or useful phone numbers? purge and the addition of new magnetic frames.

My refrigerator door is organizational challenge and defeat on a single surface. Failed attempts to organize too much stuff by buying more stuff. Efforts to involve others (the ?no leftovers? message is for the babysitter), lists, calendars: all meant to make things easier, better, more pleasant. The result is semi-organized, and a reflection not just of our life of semi-controlled chaos but of the duality of emotions that surround it. Material things, from magnets to toys to gadgets, cost far less in adjusted dollars than they ever did before, while time remains nearly as tightly budgeted as it ever was. The newest new thing is easy to get. Time to take care of the old thing, to put it away or give it away or even throw it away, is harder to come be, even when it?s as dumb as a refrigerator magnet.

That mentality ? the desire to buy a solution, or just treat yourself to a little material reward, instead of taking the time to do something more difficult or thoughtful, is reflected across many of our houses, including mine. It?s in our crowded playrooms, our overstuffed closets, and even in our so-busy schedules. And it?s apparently displayed prominently on our fridges. Don?t think something so ?seemingly unassuming? as the front of our refrigerators can really say something about a large slice of our society? The average family in the study had 55 objects on their fridge surface. I had 53. (The study author Dr. Graesch admits to 66 magnets alone.)

It looks like our refrigerators (and these researchers) have our number. What?s on your refrigerator door?

Texas HS Teacher Brittni Colleps Convicted of Group Sex With Students

A jury found a Texas high school teacher and mother of three guilty today of having sex with five male students, four of whom she had group sex with while being video-taped.

Brittni Colleps, 28, a former English teacher, was convicted of 16 counts of having improper relationships with students. Since the men were all 18 at the time of the sexual relationships, she was not charged with statutory rape.

The case against Colleps has been filled with graphic testimony and cell phone video that allegedly showed Colleps having group sex with the four students in her home during April and May of 2011. The fifth student had a sexual encounter with Colleps on a separate occasion.

Prosecutors said the group sex occurred while her children and husband, an Army specialist, were away.

The video was shown to the jury this week.

Colleps faces 20 years in prison for the convictions and is expected to be sentenced later today.

Colleps's mother and husband both testified during the sentencing hearing after she was convicted, saying that Colleps should be shown mercy by the court system.

"Have mercy on her as someone who has done nothing wrong in that time period. Have mercy on her kids they don't understand this. She's a generous person. When I went through cancer she was seven months pregnant and she shaved her head. She is a loving daughter, a loving wife regardless what happened in this situation," Shirley Bush, Colleps's mother, said in court.

Christopher Colleps, Brittni's husband, said that he was working to forgive his wife for what she did. Though the couple had engaged in legal group sex with other adults together, he felt wronged by her actions with her students, he said.

"I'm asking you to give her probation. It's not my fault or her children's, and taking her away from us is punishing us," he said. "Brittni saved my life before I met her. I was doing bad things and when I met Brittni she gave me someone to love and care about."

Christopher Colleps said the couple's children had been staying with his sister for the past week. The couple told their children that their mother "did bad things and might need to go away."

He said that the couple would work through Colleps' punishment together, whatever it was.

During the trial, students from Kennednale High School, where she taught and coached sports, testified about how the relationships began.

One of those students said his relationship began with an innocent text message. "Hey? It's Coach Colleps. Do you know what time the baseball game starts?"

Soon after that the student says that he and Colleps were exchanging almost 100 texts a day. The prosecutor says that the relationship progressed into explicit text messages and then an agreement to meet for sex.

One of the young men she is accused of sleeping with has publicly stated that she didn't commit a crime.

"She [Colleps] said that she craved, that I had something that she wanted," said another.

The men were not identified during the trial.

One student testified during sentencing, telling the judge that he did not want to see Colleps go to jail.

"I don't want to see her do jail time, probation is enough for me," said the man, who noted that he felt responsible for what had happened to Colleps.

How a RadioShack Computer and AOL Viruses Led to the Creation of GroupMe [What Was It]

I got exposed to computers in elementary school, where I learned to type and play games like Oregon Trail. I quickly fell in love with technology and unsuccessfully asked my mom for a home computer. I begged and begged and begged, and finally my mom broke down and got me a 25 MHz Tandy computer from RadioShack when I was in sixth grade or so. It was truly amazing for me. More »

One Laptop Per Child's XO4 Touch 'expected' to be released in Q1 2013

One Laptop Per Child hasn't exactly been silent about the upcoming release of its XO Touch, but details have thus far been fairly thin. The company's offered up a little more information on the matter, while sprinkling in some extra bits on the device it's now referring to as the XO-4 Touch. The release of the laptop / tablet "dual function" education device is now "expected in Q1 2013," according to the non-profit. Beyond that, details of timing and price are still quite vague. The XO-4 touch will feature a multi-touch display from Neonode that can be used in sunlight and will be packing a Marvell ARMADA 2128 processor inside. Press release after the break.
